Michael Jerome Cooper is currently the head coach of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. [1] He is also a former NBA player, playing his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers,[2] and has coached in both the NBA and the WNBA.[3]

He attended Pasadena City College before transferring to the University of New Mexico Lobos for two seasons, 1976-78.[4] There, Cooper was named first team All Western Athletic Conference. His senior season the Lobos won the WAC title, with Cooper averaging 16.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.

  • da lakers should retire coopers number, rambis number, byron scotts number and offically retire the minnapolis jerseys that they have hanging besides the retired jerseys. wut do yall guys think?

  • gotta agree with you man.. the lakers are the most disgusting franchise by not retiring cooper's number. the guy just won five championship with the lakers and didn't even bother to retire coops number. big shame

  • Chick baby knew the contributitons of Coop and prior to his passing he was advocate to retire Coop's jersey....the Lakers are wrong by not retiring his # but even without that....... #21 is in our hearts...By the way #21 does not like lephrechauns,green and Celtis...yeah baby

  • That was a big mistake letting Coop go to Italy after the '90 season. Yeah, his production dropped considerably by then, but we really could've used him against MJ and the Bulls in '91. We were pretty much helpless with Scott, Teagle or Tony Smith guarding him. Coop's shooting, ball handling to take the load of Magic, and defense on Jordan would've at least given us 2-3 more wins in that series.
