I'm not sure I agree that Clayderman deserves to be listed alongside Riddle, Kaempfert, Bacharach, Mancini, Barry or Percy Faith - they did way more original material. I suppose I understand it from a "lineage" point of view though. They also don't discuss the massive sampling that derives from this genre.
PS: If you think Lana Del Rays Video Game is a great song (regardless of her "authenticity"), congratulations - you're on your way to appreciating the aural appeal of "Easy Listening"!
@SteveTheMovieGuy1 In re-watching part 1 of this, i realized it LEADS OFF with Burt Bacharach's 1963 theme from 'Wives & Lovers'. You can't get much better press than being chosen as the lead song for the first minute & a quarter, to set the tone for a 90 minute series! Obviously this production choice meant they felt that Bacharach was the epitome of the quintessential sound of easy listening at the peak of its popularity. chuck
@SteveTheMovieGuy1 BB was one of the ealiest to employ bossa nova rhythms to chart success. What I've discovered in 2 years of intesive musical research is that Hollywood thru the yrs has been inundated by a tidal wave of musical genius, composers AND artists alike. Today, any music that doesn't insult your intelligence or beat your brain to mush is called EL. The real EL is now called 'beautiful music'. 90 minutes allows a minute each for 90 artists. Not much time, at least BB was mentioned!

Loved this, but can't believe more time wasn't accorded to Burt Bacharach, surely the the finest exponent of "easy".
