This film was created by students taking a class at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville as part of a program called The Chappaqua Summer Scholarship Program (CSSP).
CSSP was started 40 years ago, with the aim of offering a 4-week long enrichment program to high achieving New York City students.
For this year's Jacob Burns Film Center and CSSP collaboration took a class called "Reel Change" -- a course that teaches students how to create Public Service Announcements.
As inspiration for the PSAs, students learned about a current teen themed PSA campaign from the Ad Council (www.adcouncil.org). The campaign that students made a PSA for is called Teen Digital Dating Abuse and looks at how cellphones and social media tools can be used to control and abuse in a teen dating situation.
For the Teen Digital Dating Abuse campaign, the Ad Council created the That's Not Cool website (www.thatsnotcool.com) where viewers can find out more about the issue, "draw their own digital boundaries" and create guest videos in response to the campaign.
The 4 films created by the 21 CSSP students each uses a "that's not cool" strap-line, and in their different ways, each tackles a different aspect of how digital tools can be used to control in a teen relationship.
