The short story 'The Wailing Well' was written by M.R. James in 1927 for the Eton Boy Scouts. Our adaptation 'The Wailing Well' tells the tale of three scouts who find themselves separated from their troop on a hike in the English countryside.

On finding himself in trouble, Stanley Judkins, a no good bully and all round bad egg, directs his anger towards the innocent Arthur Goode. Determined to teach Arthur a lesson, Stanley and his weak-willed accomplice Wilfred, set upon him, chasing him deep into the countryside.
The boys find themselves at 'The Wailing Well', a cursed place according to local folklore
and inhabited by the ghosts of a nasty pair of Victorian child killers. Arthur is cornered, but finds it's not just spiteful peers that he has to deal with.

'The Wailing Well' is a classic gothic ghost story from one of England's finest writers of fiction. The team at Loonatik and Drinks have brought a modern sensibility to the adaptation and present a beautiful film that will chill to the core.

  • seriously, your adaptations are so much better than the rubbish the BBC broadcast over the last few Christmases, you should approach them, maybe get them broadcast on BBC4 :)

  • @rayblack2004 Cheers, that means a lot. There was a lot of hard work put into both films, glad you think so highly of them. It would be great to get them on the beeb. We'll keep on keeping on and who knows, maybe one day....

  • how did you guys create the zombie faces? They look terrifying

  • @rayblack2004 All done with the magic of computer trickery by the clever Stephen Gray. He's done other wonderful things with our other M.R.James adaptation 'Rats', now viewable on Vimeo.

  • the effects were a bit... flimsy, but nice overall

  • @dvik224 I saw that, it looks so effective, its incredible. The way you build up atmosphere is great as well. It would be amazing if you did an adaptation of Count Magnus, as thats never been adapted for TV before

  • Very well done! I'm a huge fan of Victorian ghost tales, especially those of M.R. James. You did a wonderful job of portraying his writing here.

  • Very good! I liked it a lot!
