  • I'm not sure what film this was from - but I would venture to guess it is an early Warner Bros. Busby Berkley film. Mae Clarke was a chorus girl on Broadway before going to Hollywood. Mae Clarke was a truly beautiful woman and an under-rated actress. The actor sitting alone drinking at 3:03, I think, is the very young John Wayne. The Duke did do some WB/First Nat pictures in the early 30's when he was getting started - before he became a star in westerns.

  • @bigcity233 This is Night World from Universal, and the drinking kid is Lew Ayers.

  • Directing this Picture was a punishment to Busby from the Warner Brothers!

  • @richardbrompton BB directed this in 1932 before he was associated with WB

  • If somebody opened a club like that today, it would make a million!

  • Note how the number advances the plot with its dialogue and the kaleidoscope shot of Lew Ayres. This was unusual for its time.

  • You know it was a guy who came up with the dance. And the outfits, and said "perfect. Lets give it a low cut costume, and make then jump around. Oh boy do i love tits."

  • @perfectjazz78 Thank you.!! I'll look for the video of this film.

  • What a great little video from 1932!. Surely the girls risqué costumes must have been right on the edge of the censorship regulations for that time.

  • @superunknownfuture The 50s were an era of repression. History isn't linear. Society was much more permissive in thr 20S than in the 50s. An argument could also be made that society was more permissive (on certain aspects) in the late 60s / early 70s than right now...
