Filmed primarily in Avdat,the Dead Sea and the Bell Caverns in Israel, Jesus Christ Superstar is a 1973, Oscar-nominated film adaptation of the rock opera of the same name, based on the conflict between Judas and Jesus in the last weeks before the crucifixion of Jesus. The film was directed by Norman Jewison. Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson were nominated for two 1974 Golden Globe Award for their portrayals of Jesus and Judas, respectively.

Though it attracted criticism from some religious groups, the film was generally well received.

I saw Yvonne Elliman many times in the mid 70's as a backup singer for Eric Clapton.Along with marcy Levy they were a great sound.She was so good in superstar.

I always hated the fact that the movie ended with sad faces of the deciples walking into the bus and driving away, as if they were all lost and then it ended.... That's NOT the ending! That's like ending the lord of the rings at the part where Frodo gets caught by the Sherlop. Or ending the Narnia at the part where Aslan dies. And that are just stories, but this is the real freaking deal people! I know a movie doesn't have to be based on only facts, but still. Love this song though :)

@boscat666 Just read the words I wrote stop thinking about old ideas and try to take the words seriously. Why would the poor in spirit be given the spiritual kingdom. What was he trying to convey? The problem with Jesus' ministry is that few take him seriously. Why would he say that the meek shall inherit the earth? None of what I am saying has anything to do with theology or religion. Nor is it a matter of belief. Jesus is stating facts not doctrine. Try to open your mind a bit.
