'Steve Brown' was the co-writer.
Martin Coogan is credited only on Sunday For Me & Man Stallion according to the album. (Was too busy with his Mock Turtles millions, probably).

Coogans characters are composite, he creates complicated deep comic figures, therein lies his genius. If you never look beyond the top layer you miss all the fun.

The original character the this actor copyed, is much better. He based this character on Tony Silva from the RTP1(Portuguese TV) show called "O Tal Canal" from 1982. Tony Ferrino is not his original idea, he stole it from the Portuguese actor Herman José. Tony Silva from 1982 is way funnier than Tony Ferrino. If you want to confim it just type here on YouTube " O Tal Canal Tony Silva".
Tony Ferrino only appeared in the UK during the mid 90's. while in Portugal we had it since 1982.
Steve Coogan is a genius. Artists get ideas from different sources.
