  • @dana102083 (part 2) I just think some people jump the gun with solutions and forget that hard work is... hard work!!!! No matter what the cause of weight gain, behavioural modifications will ALWAYS help, but change is hard. There is always ways to benefit ourselves, but not always people that want to try to help themselves or listen to suggestions.I promote health all day long and get paid for it, and I'd be broke if I only got paid for those who listened to good advice! :)

  • @OublietteJevien Of course. But lots of people would take that idea to an extreme. (aka these are the people that say diabetes and high cholesterol, etc are in their families--was it? or was it your family that had poor diet and exercise and passed that poor mentalities down the line?) If you were born with it, I'd say you're an exception to the rule. As a nurse, the diabetes I see every day and the resulting complications, is self inflicted. I always hope surgery is the absolute last option.

  • @dana102083 actually, I was diagnosed with I.R. about a year ago, but looking back through my medical history, it looks like I had it since I was a year or so old. Started showing at 18 months old. I was not fed anything different from my brothers and sister who had normal range body types. But hey, metformin works wonders and I've lost 167lbs in the last year alone from it. So yeah, what if someone was BORN with something wrong? Not all cases are about diet and exercise. If only they were.

  • @OublietteJevien ... and who do we usually see insulin resistance in? Obese people who lack exercise and proper nutrition. Stepping stone to type 2 diabetes, which I can't say confidentally ALL, but is a preventable disease for the most part. Why? the "eat right and exercise" mentality. Eating a well balanced diet and exercising daily will never do the body wrong, where there are many complications of surgery. I think more psychological help needs to be given to people struggling to lose weight.

  • I know someone who had this surgery and nearly died. The last time I saw her, she looked like a skeleton with eyes.

  • im sorry... did he just say mangled stomach?

  • very interesting!!!!!!!

  • Very good presentation!

  • dinobravo420, for some people "eat right and exercise" just doesn't work. In one example there are people who are insulin Resistant. Look it up.

  • dinobravo420 i have never been to Vegas so I can't tell anyone how to get there. So unless you have had weight problems you can not give advice. Excercise & eating right works for some but not all. Like I said unless you have been there you would not understand.
