I was lucky enough to see her in concert, the last time at what's now the Wang Center (Boston).
She was traveling in a Winebego; after the concert, I went to the stage door, she was standing clearly with lots of fans around; I went up to her, she was clearly tired, sweet, shy.
She said I'm so tired, she signed my autograph and even drew a flower she was famous for on it.
A thrill, she was wearing a long aqua dress; I'll never forget it!

she is a goddess and a genius and my forever muse...she didn't care what other people thought of her..would come to concerts in a black dress and a tiara and go wild in her bronx grrrl way...and, trust me, in the 60s no one musician was wearing a tiara..she's as gritty and as real as it gets.

Just reading the book (Soul Picnic), apparently the audience was stunned more than anything, there was no booing its claimed.

actually, laura nyro did in fact break her monterey performance short: this is not a "net circulated story", but established fact and was known long before there was a "net".
nevertheless, this performance is of course absolutely sensational.
