Just before our love got lost you said
I am as constant as a northern star
And I said, constant in the darkness
Wheres that at?
If you want me Ill be in the bar

On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue tv screen light
I drew a map of canada
Oh canada
And your face sketched on it twice

Oh you are in my blood like holy wine
Oh and you taste so bitter but you taste so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you
I could drink a case of you darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh Id still be on my feet

Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
Im frightened by the devil
And Im drawn to those ones that aint afraid
I remember that time that you told me, you said
Love is touching souls
Surely you touched mine
Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time

Oh you are in my blood like holy wine
And you taste so bitter but you taste so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you
I could drink a case of you darling
Still Id be on my feet
And still be on my feet

I met a woman
She had a mouth like yours
She knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds
And she said
Color go to him, stay with him if you can
Oh but be prepared to bleed
Oh but you are in my blood youre my holy wine
Oh and you taste so bitter, bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you darling
Still Id be on my feet
Id still be on my feet

  • I learned to play guitar freestyle and sing to Joni's Blue Album in High School. I still can sing and play it and I am 57. We had the best.. remember Woodstock!!!!!!

  • @ammarios Whenever I go to 60s songs, people talk about wanting to live then. And when I go to 80s music, all the teenagers my age are crying to be in the 80s. Why can't people just be happy to live in their own time, and grateful that they still have access to this amazing music?

  • I was really blessed that I found Joni in my early teens and even now, at age 57, I can still love every word and note she sings.

  • Error. Try again.

  • Im 24 years old... born in the 80's ..

However, I really envy those born in /experienced the 1960's..

They were such beautiful years of freedom, expression and humanity..

I am literally WEEPING as I listen to this,,

"I am a lonely painter..I live in a box of paint"..How anyone could NOT find that so beautiful is beyond me...

If you were born in the 60's or got to experience them you were one lucky bitch/bastard...

I'm pretty sure, had I been born then I would've been a part of the hippy mvt..lol

  • love is touching souls and this song touches mine.

  • How could anyone be arrogant enough to do a cover of that. Nothing compares to the quality and emotion in that recording!

  • I wanted to listen to Joni's voice to see if Taylor has the same vocal range.

    Nope.

Did you know she nearly got the role of Eponine in Les Mis? seriously, people need to get past the Taylor Swift facade and really see how bad she is.

  • And Taylor Swift might play Joni Mitchell in the movie, "Girls Like Us?" OMG please don't do it!

  • This is such a beautiful composition. Joni's voice is also quite a joy to listen to. Thanks for sharing this.
