There is nothing wrong with admiring a cover version...but it is bad form to insult the (flawless, gorgeous) original in your praise.

Also, Ms Mitchell did not "choose this song". She wrote it, so the words that move you came directly from her experience.

Think it's important to remember that Joni was never just the best singer/songwriter of the last century who changed the way people write but also a very talented artist/painter. If you listen to her lyrics you'll see she became more and more disillusioned by the music industry (star maker machinery) and understandably so. Personally, I am just grateful that her music has been part of my life since I was 12 years old and her honesty and insight has been truly inspiring..
