It is definitely clear, but on some songs the bass can sometime not be quite enough. But, that's only happened about twice, as most songs have enough bass.
Still, it provides hard hitting, clean and smooth bass. If you turn it up past 25 or so on some bass heavy songs, it seems as though Kicker put in a little chip to keep the dock from destroying itself with too much bass going to the speakers.
And, to answer your question simply, yes to both of them.
