It is twilight as The Cavalier leaves Keystone, W.Va and wistles frequently as it makes a mile and a half run to North Fork. Wheels loudly protest the sharp curves and the train rumbles over short bridges. The start is neat and 611's exhaust is echoed from the sharp cliffs and buildings. The fade-out comes as Train 16 pounds up Bluefield Mountain towards Elkhorn Tunnel.

  • @grizzleybearz282004 The 611 is one of my favorite engines as well...I would love it if NS would restore her and put the 611 back into service! That was the main reason I had to buy the O scale 611 for my layout it's just an amazing engine...The Norfolk and Western knew how to build locomotives

  • Heath, I loved hearing this amazing recording of the 611!!! The whistle and chuffing sounds along with the squeaking of the wheel and rails painted a wonderful picture in my mind! Thanks for sharing!!

  • @aocruiser thanks bro!! this sound recording is really awesome, it takes you back to 1958

  • Starting at 5:00 is when she really starts to tell the world about all the power she has to give.

  • steam locomotives are more than just machines, they're alive when they run.

  • Steam has so much character especially that whistle is like her voice ominous as she makes her way down the line echoing letting everyone know of her presence.

  • The J-Class is one of my favorite steam locomotives. It looks like it has a face up front, too.

  • This is an old Class J Roanoke built Steamer I like the styling these had. In 1947 my first Steam Locomotive as a Fireman and Engineer was ATSF 3751 and later was an old Baldwin 4-10-10-2 Steamer and along come the Diesel EMD F7. wonderful memories.

  • Wow what a sound great!!! Thx for sharing, i love the N&W RR. Best wishes from germany look at my channel pls to see more N&W steamaction!!!!

  • great video

  • @LionelKid18 Ya know, that's a possibility now that NS steam is back. It might be a few years, or it might not happen. But there is a chance of that.

  • Great recording to say the least. The "J's" were something to behold no question. I am glad the 611 is still with us.....the 80's and early 90's were good times.

  • @LionelKid18 amen! n&w built perfect engines sad that 1218 doesnt have all her parts now days tho
