We selected ten ragtimes (five composed by Scott Joplin, its main representative), which were performed by a Choro Ensemble following the same traditional Choro swing, rhythm and harmony. For the solo we used the typical instruments used in Choro: flute, mandolin, clarinet, and sax.

Thanks so much! The bass line of the ragtime is never syncopated, so when played by a choro ensemble the 7-string guitar really makes the difference. All counterpoints by the 7-string guitar (except those you can read in the scores) were improvised on the spot (at recording time) by the amazing player Tony 7 cordas from the Epoca de Ouro (Rio de Janeiro).

Heartiest congratulations on these clever & compelling arrangements. The highlights for me throughout were the imaginative & nimble bass counterlines rendered with 7-string guitar. I'm a long-time fan of both ragtime & choro. With exception of Scott Joplin (& later Jelly Roll Morton), I feel that too often ragtime relies on an unimaginative & static "oom-pah" bass--whereas choro strives to include much counterpoint. These arrangements ably deliver welcome counterpoint & polyphony.
