@demo23nz It was conservative to being open to outsiders or people who didn't understand the music i.e. reporters and journalists. Especially after the church burnings in Norway but it's thought process is very liberal. It's about individualism, freedom and self expression. Many of the musicians within the genre state it is very liberal minded. Still though I find bands like WITTR and Agalloch being able to push the envelope of the genre to make it even more atmospheric and dark.

Actually, traditionally Black Metal was a very conservative 'in-crowd' sub genre with lots of debate about who was true and who wasn't... Hence the idiots who can't handle the new directions bands like this have taken it in...

@zeppelinrocks73 It's called minimalism and to be honest Mayhem is a really poor example of complexity compared to Dissection, Emperor or Enslaved. WITTR is an intense band they do not just use 4 chords they just extend and drone passages in the song and layer the music. Finally if you're going to nit pick and be a fucking music Nazi then why the fuck are you even listening to Black Metal? Black Metal is very liberal in it's varieties and ideology. It's about expression and art.
