  • you're welcome Dude. glad it was of some help to you. My initial trials at wire splicing were works of art, for Tate Modern that is. My dad is left handed so trying to learn from him was difficult. onward and upward my friend!!!

  • Oh, you thought i said nutter? I said Knotter!

  • I had no problems, I can easily remember the bird feet reference, my washing line is 100% operational!! Thanks :) and you should start Newlyn Knot School or something!! Tee hee. S

  • Hi Freddie, You make it look so easy....

thanks for showing me the short splice the other day, I have mastered it, you'll be glad to hear. Regards, Sarah.

  • depends really on how deep the water is where you'll be fishing but for depths up to 10 fathom i'd recommend a double headline of 6mm and 8mm and any deeper use double 8mm. Use a number 3 leadline for your footline. regards and thanks for your querie. ;)

  • I learned making a net 1 hr ago (im too 13 :P) and i hate the stick for the meshes :)

btw what type of rope do you suggest for gill nets?

  • i've spliced braided in the past Pyp but jeez it's a painstaking process and very intricate. The thicker the rope the better.

  • Hey PYP thanks for your kind remarks. It's a slow process at first isn't it? As you get used to the lay of the rope you'll do it with your eyes closed, I've been in the net rigging business for 11 years and fishing business for 25 so i guess I have a head start on you. Slainte. Freddie

  • thank you for your comments. It helps to take it slowly at first. Slainte. Freddie

  • dang you good i knew what you were doing because i can do it (and i'm 13) but you did it so fast... How???

and do you know how to do that with a rope that has a core i believ it's called braided rope. thanks PYP

  • ok I'll take camcorder to work next week and do it for you again in better light. Good luck and thanks for remarks. Freddie

  • Thats great news. glad to be of help in some way. Any further questions please dont be afraid to ask. I had to learn another one recently myself for hitching 2 ropes together which can be easily opened after tension; it's called the Carrick Bend. Ahve a look at it on Google. very interesting. Slainte

  • No Chris it's not a Nfld but our accent has been mistaken for such before. I'm from Wexford in Ireland and certain areas of Newfoundland have our dialect. thanks for the comment.

  • Do I hear an accent from Nfld? :) Thanks for the info!
