  • Short has class and integrity. Cheparinov again shows an example of mindless nationalism. Ignorant and childish.

  • I think Nigel is right

  • @warblerab Funny you should ask, for I do show good sportsmanship. I´m all for that. It graces the game. What I am against is to be forced to smile, shake, bow or wear masks. This is not the former USSR. With all the dependency on bureaucratic rules it begins to look like it or even surpass it, I say. To put it another way: The way it is taken now, it only attracts nerds while really great independent minds steer clear from it. Can we blame them?

  • @warblerab Did you even read my comment? He can punish him IN the game. If a professional athlete isn't cordial to his opponent, you think it's mandatory to cause a forfeiture and deprive the audience of an awesome game? I swear, games have the most idiotic technicalities once institutionalized.

  • @uchihadante77 I doubt Kramink wants to shake Topalov's hand either. Topalov is a jerk. He should be ashamed of himself accusing a player of cheating without evidence.

  • @herpderpmonkey just how would you suggest punishing the player? If the "dickwad" didn't want to lose on a technicality, he should have shook Short's hand.

  • @ChessDimension how bout you just learn how to show good sportsmanship and how be a gentleman(or lady, whichever applies) instead?

  • these eastern bloc people have douche in the blood, I know, dealt with them.

  • Wauw... forced handshake now - Yeah, that´s the way to go.

Never mind the fact that you can insult your opponent in a thousand ways.

Obviously we must all just love and obey the increasing bureaucratic web of rules... so that little flubby fat cry babies like Nigel Short can claim a victory on a personal grudge...

Welcome to the system of the New World Order in chess!! What´s next - forced labour North Korean style?

PS: Next time, I will make sure to crap in my hands before shaking :-)

  • wow mr short skills on knowing the rules, i know we were talking in chessclub about rules and they are like yeah this one guy knows thenm all he is amazing, i dont know any rules, but i do think if your gonna be that rude you dont desrve to be playing chess !

  • short ftw

  • Why are they making such a big deal about a handshake? It's a shame to the game of chess that a technicality like that exists. Let the dickwad be a dickwad and punish the player in a way so that the game isn't compromised.

Did he REALLY have to go to an arbiter and complain about his opponent's rudeness?
