MR BIG including the Man with The Gokden Voice DICKEN from Broken Home in a video by FALKE58 made for The PhilDeeferSite.
In 1975 I´ll met this man and his band Mr Big, Jeffrey Robert Pain alias Dicken born in 1950 in Oxford´s Churchill Hospitalin UK. I didn´t met him in person but in his music. Worked in that time in a music house with a large recordstore. There was a new released record, an LP from EMI, Mr Big and "Sweet Silence". Directly goes it in my heart. The album includes Time Base, Golden Lights, Violet May and many more great songs. Recorded at the famous Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, Wales. Produced by John Punter.
The album was ended up with a masterpiece. You have met Steve Harley before, introduced you for The Death Trip. This is Dicken´s Death Trip, a masterpiece named APPEARED A SHINING THRONE/THRONE A SECOND AMENDMENT. Such a great story, such a great song. For some reasons there aren´t any words written in the rockhistory of this man, DICKEN.
For every musicians that has "made it" in the music buisiness there are others, perhaps with more talent, who, for one reason or another, never quite got the breaks and realised their full potential. Sometimes this was due to changing trends, music climate or record company politics, sometimes it was down to personalities, being in wrong times or wrong places or maybe just plain bad luck. If music talent alone was the sure-fire guarantee of commercial sucess, then the history of rock´n roll would have been considerably re-written. One name that certainly deserves to be included in that re-write is Dicken.
For some years ago we met each other in letters and from that day we are good friends. There´s one reason why I Share his music and makes videos of his beautiful songs but also there is a main reason, spread his music so more than me can be able to find his music. This is A MASTERPIECE.

The voice when it almost cracks reminds me of Paul McCartney's and is a great rock 'n' roll voice for that. I like the celtic rock edge to this. Haunting and spiritual sounding in a way. Nice video to go with it too of course (as usual Michael). Best wishes. Pete
