We have something similar to these in the UK. I've seen them on the Worcestershire Avon.

That is very cool.
We have big ferries here for transportation to the mainland and back and a smaller one for getting back and forth to Chappaquiddick Island. They both carry motorized vehicles and bicycles.
The Netherlands are a shining example.

Instead of using puny arm power the ferry should have a seat and pedals like a bike to power it across. After all it does ferry cyclists and bikes. It makes sense to use legs and not arms. Legs would be more efficient.

That might matter if it was a long way across and if the efficiency was in any way a problem. It's not. This is basically a bit of fun. It's on a tourism route and is not anyone's commuting route. In the winter the water freezes and the ferry goes no-where.
