lets see if india distributes its wealth between its citizens any better than the 'developed' nations. 'buying power' of a country is nothing but bad if only a few can access it. GDP is just a measure of how many times a single unit of currency is spent before its equivalent is paid back in interest. (measured over a financial year as 'gross domestic product' through registered and reported transactions) the quicker people spend money the more attractive a market (country) is to a producer.
