Roland Jupiter 8 (12 bit version) - 1981 model - all sounds programmed and recorded by me.....some years ago.

I was an EQ novice back then...hence why this demo sounds a little sharp, cold, shrill...perhaps even metallic.

Make no mistake, the Jupiter is a lovely warm synth....

Thanks for making this JUPITER video the most viewed in the world!

  • There's a Jupiter 8 on sale in Ebay (October 17th 2011). "2009pinkfloyd" is trying to sell 1 that he states is in "MINT CONDITION". The price starts at $7,700.00, (or buy it now for $8,500.00) There's also an $850.00 shipping charge attached to it.

I don't know, but I wouldn't pay more than $2,500.00 for one of these even if I had the money to buy one. I'd pay $2,000.00 at the drop of a hat (considering that these are 30 years old and most people don't have them anymore), but $3,000.00+...?

  • @nudist1033 As a previous owner of several JP8's I can hand on heart say they are an amazing + beautiful synth. Having said that, I would never pay more than £3000.00 for one. The true value is nearer £2000.00 if Im honest. The main issue with these is that there are very few people (globally) who are truly competent in keeping them running. From a maintenance point of view, Prophet 5's are much better. There's atleast 5x as many floating around and the parts are *much* easier to source.

  • Does it include breakfast?

  • @arronarronarron

    "Does it include breakfast?"

Regrettably no - however the heat sink doubles as a great burger grill lol

  • Guys - please check out TheSynthFreq's Jupiter 8 videos....she is awesome and gives a good representation of it's sound!!!!

  • @M3sslah. We shouldn't be angry at Roland, because their "success" had nothing to do with their original intentions. 1980s Roland engineers were actually diasappointed in their own creation of TB303 & TR808 because it sounded UNrealistic. Ironically thats why it succeeded to the undergound DJs who created House & Techno. As far as Roland is concerned they are simply following their philosophy of acoustic realism. Phat-analog has never been their goal, but luckily for us sometimes they "fail" ;)

  • i like to listen to this as a thing in its own right! not just a demo

  • @fender1000100 i've got 2 dx7s and they're alright, but you can't match analog stuff like the jp-8. the jp-8 blows any digital synth out of the water.

  • Infinitely better than the crap 80 (Jupiter in name only)

  • PLAY ONE OF THE BACKGROUND SONGS FROM THE WARRIORS!!!!!!

  • sounds like a real deal

  • @DIGITALSCREAMS Is that drum loop at 8:01 coming from the Jupiter 8 or an external drum machine? Sounds raw as hell!

  • @mukaikof The Jupiter 4, not 8, was used on the Human League's DARE album. According to Wikipidea (and other sources): The following studio equipment was used in the recording of the album:[6] Casio M10 Casio VL-1 Korg 770 Korg Delta Linn LM-1 Roland Jupiter-4 Roland MC-8 Roland System 700 Yamaha CS-15
  • @ovomusic DX7 is an old DIGITAL dinosaur. It uses FM synthesis to shape sounds (and is also a nightmare to program). I do agree though, fender1000100 doesn't appear to understand or recognise the appeal of analogue synths. Saying that, J8 prices are way over the top these days sadly, priced out of reach of a lot of people who could make good use of them.

  • How many sampling ram is there?

  • @pixusbubblejet ..you nailed that one on the head! It really blows my mind that Roland cannot reproduce this Jupiter 8. It tells me that the folks running Roland today are highly incompetent. Now they create synths like the Gaia and the ax9 controller? Please people!
