World War Two veteran Robert McCombe has been chosen to represent New Zealanders at the dedication of a new statue at Sydney's Anzac Bridge.

Mr McCombe, a life time member of the RSA, will be accompanied by the Prime Minister when the bronze statue of a World War One soldier is dedicated next Tuesday.

"It is an extreme honour, as far as I'm concerned, to be chosen to represent the Second World War people at a function such as that," Mr McCombe said.

  • @GallipoIi god bless turkey?? for what for killing our young men, thay were German allies, & those goat !!F!! don't beleve in your god

  • @FullstopGames during world war two all males over the age of 18 were called up, some did volunteer but most were conscripted. Your comment is rather vulgar seeing you live in Australia even if you are not australian by birth, you should be disgusted by your own comments. If not for the bravery of those young men and they were younger than you are now you would not have the freedom and life you now enjoy. Show some respect

  • "Those heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives, you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. therefore rest in peace. there is no difference between the johnnies and the mehemets to us where they lie side by side in this country of ours.

you, the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears, your sons are now lying in our bosoms and are in peace. after having lost their lives on this land they become our sons as well."
