Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is planning to purchase online retailer Woot.com said Woot officials Wednesday, but details of the deal have not been disclosed.
Woot is an online discount retailer that offers one sale item daily, and the company will continue independent operations from its headquarters in Carrollton, Texas.
"We plan to continue to run Woot the way we have always run Woot -- with a wall of ideas and a dartboard," wrote Woot CEO Matt Rutledge to employees. "From a practical point of view, it will be as if we are simply adding one person to the organizational hierarchy, except that one person will just happen to be a billion-dollar company that could buy and sell each and every one of you like you were office furniture."
Amazon will add Woot to its list of acquisitions, which includes last year's purchase of Zappos.com and book retailer Audible in 2008.
Shares o f Amazon closed Wednesday's trading day up 0.60% at $109.26.
