A 23-year-old Brooklyn Center man has been charged with second-degree manslaughter in the death of his four-month-old son on Aug. 28 at an apartment complex in Golden Valley. Willie Ervin Franklin III currently is in custody at the Hennepin County Jail.

The Osseo School District recently announced how it's federal stimulus funds will be used in the district. Some of the funds received have restricted use. The district proposes using $1 million for students with special needs, $1million in Title One funds for instructional software and supplemental math and reading materials and $2 million for long term programs and services to benefit students. As a result of the stimulus funding, An additional $2.5 million will be freed up from the operating budget and used for nearly 20 classroom teachers. The proposal is pending approval by the Minnesota Department of Education.
The two teachers who harassed a former student in the Anoka-Hennepin School District went on voluntary leave for an undetermined amount of time. District officials confirmed that Diane Cleveland and Walter Filson will not be in their classrooms for the district's Secondary Technical Education Program in Anoka when school begins. Substitute teachers are being sought now. Citing data privacy laws the district won't say when or if the teachers will return. An investigation found that Cleveland and Filson harassed former student Alex Merritt over his perceived sexual orientation during the 2007-2008 school year.
