I just bought a truck with the same problem but worse. The bearings broke out then the u-joint cut through the cap and into the yolk on the rear end. Now the rear end and the transfercase both have about 1/4 inch of play in them. I'm probably gonna have to replace my rear end and transfercase sooner or later now because of that. It was a $20 part that i changed quite easily and in no time at all.
oh ya, that's bad.
