  • 4501 is definitely going to be restored. No word on 611 yet but it would only require relatively minor upgrades and repairs if it was done.

  • @thediremoose Thanks for the info. I will be first in line to see it.

  • BEAUTIFUL SOUNDS!!!!!

  • @Rtchugg Thanks for looking.

  • I thought #611 was drug out recently by an NS diesel through Roanoke? Where it sits now, under the shed is there track connection to other tracks, or is it landlocked? What is NS's policy on non-Amtrak excursions using non-Amtrak equipment by operators other than NS? Yes or no? Is #611 going to be cold forever like the PRR engines at Strasburg? Was NS intending to end the steam program permanently when they ended it? So it's gone forever? Unless Wick Moorman or a future CEO brings it back.

  • Your questions are way beyond my info base. Sugest you contact m611martin

  • @boblackey1 not really ns has started a new steam program... but sadly 611 isnt in the roster.

  • i hope ns gets this engine going again she was made to haul not sit in a museum

  • ns stema program backup and in the works again look for 611 and others to be online soon

  • enjoyed the video

  • I'm from Roanoke. No 611 is not landlocked. The museum is right next to the main line tracks in downtown Roanoke. A couple of years ago she was pulled out and moved down the main track to the old train station for a special event then put back. When NS stopped steam in 1994 it was for good. But people have been hoping that some day they will decide to run 611 again even if its just once a year or so.
