On Sept 10th 1996 the SS Norway arrived in Le Havre for the first time since the SS France left in 1979. Thousands of people lined the beach and harbor to get a look at the France/Norway as she arrived.
I was on this wonderful transatlantic crossing, and remember getting wet from the spray from the tugboats. When we left at night thousands stood along the shore, fireworks were going off on the breakwater, and thousands holding candles sang the French national anthem as we left. The Captain played a mournful refrain on the horn knowing it was the last time the France/Norway would return to France. It was the voyage of a lifetime! I will never forget the trip or the beloved Norway.
thanks for the vid, i worked on this magical ship from may 06 - jan 07 and was fortunate to on this historic crossing retracing the steps of the ss france, i remember sailing into new york and taking a trip up the empire state building and looking down on her as she was docked, what a photo that is! great memories and the best crew bar afloat! hello to any steiners who worked on her during this time from andy in the roman spa.

Do you remember if they actually gave out free posters of the norway that day? How many days was the ship at La Havre?
