February Flower is a sicilian circle dance by Fried de Metz Herman, set to the music for the soprano solo in Vivaldi's Gloria and dedicated to a wonderful dancer from England, Judith Hanson. It is seen here as a fragment, danced at the first annual Lenox Assembly in Lenox, MA, on April 26, 2009. Music is by the incomparable Barbara Greenberg, violin; Dan Beerbohm, winds; and Karen Axelrod, piano.
I listened today to a CD of vocal music by a young soprano, Krista Adams Santilli. The third cut is the Domine Deus from Vivaldi's Gloria. I knew that Fried had used music from the Gloria for February Flower. Image the pleasure I had in discovering it was this very cut! Of course Fried "fixed" the music to work for the dance. I think Vivaldi would be pleased!
