Barbariccia was the original intended name, named after a demon in Dante's Inferno. However, the original SNES translators didn't seem to know that, so they just transliterated the names as best they could. B's and V's often get mixed up in Japanese to English, as well as R's and L's. Imagine a translator looking at "バルバリシア(Barubarishia)" and wondering how to turn that into a name English speakers could pronounce. "Balbalishia? No... Valvalisha? Better, but it won't fit. Valvalis? Perfect!"

バルバルシア のより
ババリッチーア
とかくのほうが確かだよ

Valvalus? I thought it was Barbaricca?
-
She's invulnerable! Kain, Jump!!
-
when the game first appeared in the US her name was Valvalis and everyone knows her as such....she's awesome!!!!!!
-
I thougth Valvalis was the original English translation, but I don't know. In the Japanese text there, though, the name says Barubarishia. So yeah, that's the Japanese equivalent of Barbariccia.

just see RUBICANTE , in JAPAN IS CALLED yoidehanaika LOL
-
Valvalis is the name used in the original snes translation, and has nothing to do with the Japanese one. In fact, if you are able to read katakana, you can see in the video that her name is Barubarishia. Three guesses what that translates to.
-
i remember hearing something about it was changed, but not sure on that, althouh i did play an original version and i swear it was barbaiccia
-
Valvallis is the JPN name. Barbacia is the ENG name.
-
I believe Valvalis is the english name, not quite sure though heh
-
This isn't Valvalis, its Barbariccia. Are those names interchangeable?
-
guys he probley didn't know that he needed those people in frount.

Ugh.. Cecil in the back = epic fail. However, I always kept Yang in the front with Cecil and Kain. Even after 17 years of playing and beating FFIV for systems over and over again.
-
Barbariccia hits like a ton of bricks and counters when attacked, so I guess he put him there to help with support magic while Yang and Kain use hard hitting specials.
This minimizes the damage dealt to the entire party, while dealing a lot to her in the meantime.
It's a pretty good strategy actually. It greatly increases your chance of survival. Wish I'd thought of that when I fought this bitch a few months back. :P
-
You must remember that ff7 is a much longer game too. One of the first pioneering games to have polygons to create the 3dness.
-
why is Cecil in the back?
-
UH, NO. FFVII was one of the most popular Final Fantasy games. They aren't "milking it" in the least.
Crisis Core was about Zack, a character who hardly had any backstory in the original FFVII.
Dirge was mainly about Vincent, A hidden character who also didn't have much of a back story.
Before Crisis is the back story of the Turks.
And AC is the sequel to FFVII.
ACC is going to be important because it will have the FFXIII demo on it and 30 extra minutes of footage. :)

I prefer PSP over DS. Although I do have both. lol I'll be selling the DS for parts cause the screen cracked, and while I was trying to fix it, one of the wires popped off and I don't have any soldering tools. :(
-
Still, the PS1 has waaaaaay more 3D capability than a DS does (Don't get me wrong, I'm not a DS hater in the least)
-
PS1 was like 12 years ago though.
-
Whats really sad is that this looks better than Final Fantasy VII dispite the fact FF7 was on a more powerful machin -_^
-
try telling that to vintage-aerith, Anyways what didn't you like about Crisis Core?
