  • It's to the left of the camera. It's a 15 foot high dirt cliff. The shot was fired from the right.

  • Did I claim this was scientific? It's one shot with only one type of projectile.

Sure you could use ballistic gelatin with penetration gradations but that's only useful in comparison tests. I'm sure you've read all kinds of interesting studies on the subject but I live in a country that still at least pretends to be free enough to allow it's citizens to purchase, own and use handguns. I actually get to rely on personal empirical evidence.

  • @Empireian I agree that you always have to be safe, but come on man. Deer hunting you need to know what is behind your target, no disagreement there. However, you have no idea how big this dudes land is. The range for a .22 is 1.14 miles. A pretty damn far distance. A .40 is similar, however its coming out of a 4 inch barrel. That round is going to drop like a bastard at about 230 yards. I suppose my defensiveness for this random stranger was because you called him a maniac. I apologize.

  • Damn whos ever head that was supposed to be had a bad day

  • @edbean420

    1. He did have a backstop as he has clarified.

    2. A .40 may only have a very short effective range, but its lethal range is enormous and there is no reason to fire even a .22 without a proper backstop. Even when deer hunting it is important to make a shot so that the bullet will impact the ground somewhere not so far away from the animal.

  • @Empireian are you fucking serious... hes in the middle of nowhere shooting .40 handgun rounds. This isnt a rifle dude, chillax.

  • @MrAndy51286 That may be the theory, assuming they are wounded JUST ENOUGH that the enemy cannot fight yet doesn't actually die.

In practice a wounded enemy is just too deadly, still able to spray a kalashnikov from the hip or toss a grenade.

See the logistics-focused officer-general may love "wounding weapons" but the soldier with his life on the line does NOT. Also an enemy that survives, LEARNS! Kill/capture the enemy is ideal.

  • @Treblaine it is better to wound a target, then his three buddies have to focus on him instead of the fight.

  • @Skormm yeah I realise that now, if only it wasn't a so-called "war crime" to use hollow-points in warzones.

War is insane, if a hunter shot any game with FMJ he'd rightly be called cruel for using a round that is more likely to wound, but the rule of law that bans hollow-points is based round rounds causing "unnecessary suffering".

Why is a human less worthy of a clean kill than a wild animal? Is it not more imperative for the soldier to kill quickly than the hunter?

  • @Treblaine No shit, anything is more effective than FMJ when rating stopping power. (Other than something obvious like rubber bullets and marshmallows for you smartasses).
