The intro always bothered me. The brief shot of Father Dyer visiting the steps where Karras died is clearly meant to be later on in the film, when Dyer and Kinderman meets up. And the photograph of Kinderman together with Karras makes no sense; in the original film they had only met each other during the possession of Regan when also Karras' mother had died, so it's highly, highly unlikely that the two ever hung out, laughing over a good time photo.

In the new intro, I decided to add the introduction of Father Morning, because it helps to establish the mood. I also deleted the Jesus statue "coming to life"; it's just so over the top.

  • "The sun is not setting, it's rising". ... No it's not.

  • Sorry, this doesn't work at all. You've completely destroyed the mood of the opening. And you're just wrong about the shot of Dyer visiting the steps. Aside from the fact that it's the anniversary of Karras' death (which is why Dyer visits), but he's clearly shown walking past the rowers to get there.

  • I don't see show how I have destroyed the mood. And I'm not wrong. We see that the sun is about to set as the rowers are out on the water. But then when it cuts to Father Dyer walking by the rowers, its daytime! Check out my other video with Dyer visiting the steps later.

  • I have always thought this is one of the most underrated Horror flicks ever made...its not about the gore, its about what is , Spiritual Warfare, Creepy and frightening !

  • The director's cut of Exorcist III: Legion is alas probably never to be. Exorcist fan and noted film critic Mark Kermode has spent years trying to reconstruct it, but word is the footage is gone forever. Sad.

  • Father Morning in his spartan quarters amidst the splendour of Georgetown University. He is ever prepared for the forthcoming battle in which we are both target and witness.

  • The sun is not setting, it's rising. Crews row at dawn, not sunset, so of course it's daytime when they pass Dyer -- it's later in the day.

The opening of the film is a masterwork of establishing tone and atmosphere. Father Morning arguably shouldn't be in the movie at all, but certainly not clumsily jammed into the opening sequences.
