@AmanEditing Imagine that either end of the spring (not for pushing, but for pulling) is attached to the two pink squares on the slider. When the slider moves forward, the spring stretches while the rear latch holds the notched blade in place, which stores potential energy. When the slider finally moves the rear latch away from the blade, the stored energy releases to kinetic energy, pushing the blade out. It works the exact same the other way.
