On August 27th 2009 we departed Petersburg, Alaska after one week fishing sightseeing vacation. Just after take off in about fifteen minutes the movie views The Stikene river emerging out of a great estuary and the mountains of Western Canada. We had fished in the rented boat in secret places North of Petersburg bringing home in the cargo of the plane, seven halibut and six salmon.. The airliner flew below the clouds to Wrangell, Alaska, only 15 minutes away. I think these two airports are modestly long, the pilots give the engines full, and the brakes hard to squeeky on take off and landing. Petersburg is a fine fishing community worth visiting. A Nordic background, with hardy people, friendly, self reliant, greetings on the sidewalks. Both Petersburg, Alaska, and Wrangell, Alaska have fishing communities. Petersburg is better

  • Darn thin is it works. Simple is better.

  • My sisters live in Petersburg. It's nice up there.

  • The local NPR radio station has a web cam that refreshes every 15 seconds. I enjoy the "fleet" activity, spot an eagle now and then, get foged in. Petersburg is a great town with history, the Alaska view of life, and darn good fishing.

  • Thanks for the video - nice and smooth on the camera action there (good quality res). Heard the brakes resonate and was thinking the pilot must be standing on them pretty good (or dialed up the Autobrake)... then at the end there when you guys do the 360, you can see the "4,000 feet remaining until your airplane becomes a waterplane" sign - meaning that 737 stopped and turned around in just over 4,000 feet and that, my friend, is why that airplane and their Alaskan pilots kick ass.

  • ...by the way, how'd you like the "doggie door" baggage claim at Petersburg airport? lol
