SMEDA's Women Business Fair achieves success

Ms. Shaheen Attiquer Rehman, Former Minister and Social Welfare Leader opened the two-day Women Business Fair arranged by Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) today at a local hotel to commemorate 2nd Anniversary of its Women Business Incubation Center. Mr. Shahid Rashid, Chief Executive Officer, SMEDA delivered address of welcome in the inaugural ceremony which was attended by a large number of women business leaders including SMEDAs GM Syed Iqbal Anwar Kidwai and Mr. Muhammad Jamil Afaqi; Mr. Liaqat Ali Gohar, Convener, Organizing Committee of the Fair, Ms. Aisha Amjad, Project Director, WBIC and Ms. Maimona Sattar, Project Manager, WBIC.
While addressing as Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony, Ms. Shaheen Attiqur Rehman appreciated SMEDA endeavors to enhance economic empowerment of women in the country. She urged SMEDA to continue its efforts in the same zeal. She appealed the government to further strengthen national institutions like SMEDA.
Mr. Shahid Rashid, Chie Executive Officer SMEDA, in his address of welcome expressed thanks to the women enterepreneurs for extending warm response to the Fair by booking a large number of stalls to display their products. He told that SMEDA organizing committee had to expand lay out of the stalls from 40 to 50 to meet pressing demand of women entrepreneurs for having stalls in the Fair
CEO SMEDA said that basing upon success of the first WBIC, government of Pakistan had decided to open 14 more Centers for development of women enterprises in the country. He was confident that the experiment of holding Women Business Fair would lead towards regular Women Business Exposition in Lahore as well as in other business cities.
The two-day Women Business Fair, opened today, will remain open till June 24, 2009 from 11-00 am to 11-00 pm. The items like Magic Show, Puppet Show, Face painting and lucky draws were highly appreciated by the families who visited this exhibition.
It is noticeable that SMEDA has decided to deposit total amount collected on account of stall fee in the Prime Ministers Relief Fund for victims of terrorism.
