I came upon this bear today, most likely a female, since her two cubs ran for cover when I walked out onto the deck of my home here in Hampton Township, Sussex County, NJ. She had to be real hungry to go for the bird feeders and to ignore the noise I made. The again, my neighbors' feeders are an easy meal for her. She and her cubs must have awakended within the last week or two. These bears do not hibernate, just sleep, and have been known to appear on the odd warm day during the winter, and more frequently now in the month of March. Today, with Spring-like temps in the 60s, it's no wonder I came upon this one. Nothing like being in the right place at the right time.
no, my neighbor got robbed!
