In the wake of a Republican power grab in the New York State Senate, Ian Beaumont is uncompromising about Republicans and their so called love of "Democracy".

  • You are wrong, good chap! It is all perfectly democratic. The proper procedures were followed to the point. But do not worry: perhaps gay marriage will pass anyhow.

  • I'd say, mind you own business. You're there, we're here and this is the way we do business when a political party has managed to screw up NYS in only 5 months. I've watch the way your country does political business and talk about a Circus. Now if the Repubs can take over the Federal Govt maybe we'd get common sense back into the oval office and not some left wing/Socialistic moron who is running the country into the ground.

  • As a Syracusan Republican, I'm pleased to see Republicans retake power in the State Senate. Democrats control the State Assembly and the Governorship in the state capital. We can't allow Democrats full control especially in these times.

The coup was completely legal. New Yorkers did not vote for a Democratic majority, but for individual senators. This is why America is an indirect democracy. Bronx voters picked Espada and trusted him to do whats right. Hes doing so by caucusing w/ Republicans.

  • The legislature here and the imbecile in chief who occupies the governor mansion ( I would argue he is to this state what Bobbi Bonilla was to the Mets) are a joke

  • What don't you understand about parliamentary democracy? 32 members in a 62 member body is a MAJORITY. It is undemocratic for a minority to try dictating to the majority by walking out on session. If Malcolm Smith had been capable of leading his conference then the 2 Democrats wouldn't have felt it necessary to defect. Now we're going to see some real reform.
