i know this is going way back, but Shiki No Uta was the beat i used for one of my very very first blends, Nas - Get Down (Nujabes Blend). gee, it's already been 2-3 years i can't even remember. a lot of ppl liked the beat and wanted to find out where the beat came from, but then they were confused because the original beat IS Shiki No Uta, but they don't sound the same. apparently there's also another version that Nujabes put on his album that uses the same bass line but with different sound overall, adding yet another point of confusion into ppl's already lost-to-dark-debate about what the beat was.

okay, so once and for all, i'll explain what happened. basically, when I heard Shiki No Uta for the first time, I fell in love with it and I had to have someone rap over it (which turned out to be Nas at the moment). in order for Nas to rap over the beat, I had to get the beat where Minmi does not sing over it. It just so happens that the beginning few seconds of Shiki No Uta and a few seconds in the middle of the song do not have Minmi singing over the beat. so basically I took those parts, put'em together to make a loop. and since no beat is complete without a kick and a snare, and some high hats, I went to fruity loops and made some crappy sounding wannabe-primo old-school drum loop, and put them together and there it was. i'd like to call this a copy-paste job (rather than sampling) because i'm not doing anything creative other than taking someone else's work and pasting them together.

there have been a lot of requests for the beat for Nas - Getdown (Nujabes blend), but i haven't been able to upload the beat since it was such a long time ago and i had lost all the work due to some hardware problems. i apologize that it took almost 2 years for me to get back to this and actually post the instrumental. still, i hope you'd like it. scratch to it, rap to it, dance to it, take a train to it, do whatever you want with it. oh by the way, the drum loop i used for this version is from Epik High's song Excuses.

  • this song makes me want to cry seriously.... this song brings back so much memories when i was in high school and me and 3 other homies went to the beach and lit up a fat joint and kick back and listen to this dope ass instrumental, such good memories

  • @soychirokun Nujabes did a big chunk of the Samurai Champloo Soundtrack. And it is often mistaken that Nujabes did the WHOLE Samurai CHamploo OST. But in fact, Tsutchie, Fat Jon, and Force of Nature worked on the soundtrack as well. It wasn't only Nujabes. I would say Fat Jon was featured on more of the Samurai Champloo OST than Nujabes was.

  • Wait for the beat to drop. It hits like pancakes on the flipflop. Hungry for the mornings breakfast. Gotta hurry and be the best. Im your mercenary promise to kill. Do it for the food but mostly for a thrill. Slice and dice through the faces. Hide the evidence, leave no traces. Gone in a flash, while you see the gleam of my swords brass. Swift to thought but it was the plot. Cobra style fighter and swift like deadly birds. Getting to the last character, too bad this comments gotta limit on words

  • This is made nice. I appreciate you making it available for download as well. When I get around to writing something for it I'll make sure you and Nujabes get credit. R.I.P. to one of the most underrated and under-appreciated producers the world has ever seen.
