The creationist "theories" I've seen are insane. One puts a dome of ice around the Earth. Another makes the ancient Earth flat and without mountains. My favorite one is that dinosaurs aren't actually extinct at all, just really good at hiding now.

They literally have to imagine up a new world in their heads completely divorced from this one.

I'll tell you where this denial of scientific fact comes from. It comes from trying to combat advancing knowledge from contradicting deeply held beliefs.

When all evidence lines up with the evolutionary theory, they try to come up with alternate theories that explain the evidence away. But when they do that, they change history in a way that forces them to come explain that, which causes a new problem and so on.
