It's a variation on Horace' Beatus Ille. But it avoids the cynicism.
To be less cynical than Horace would have seemed daring once.

Outstanding. Simply outstanding.

Thanks so much for that. Strange how attractive that dream seems, even two-and-a-half centuries later.

I was once admonished for writing an ode, or at least I called it an ode, that seemed completely positive about something. The teacher called on a student from another one of his classes, who parroted what he had learned: that an ode was to be both positive and negative about its subject. Pope seems to be completely reverent to the idea of solitude, despite what that man and his lackey told me. I guess people who can't quite manage to write treat writing like some sort of arcane spellcasting.

@Inmorel No it's me, Tom O'Bedlam. I've read a few of Bukowski's poems on YouTube, so people think my voice is his. Thank you for listening - and please keep on listening, regards, Tom.
