In English the name would be Burn you lighthouses, the song is not about burning lighthouses though. It is about a ship sailing in storm and how he sailors plea for the lighthouse to guide them their way to shore. It was written by Páll Ísólfsson at least 50 years ago.

Edit:

I just uploaded a new video with the translated lyrics of the song. You can find the video under Video Responses. Thank you.

Edit 2:

Finally decided to correct my mistake, apparently it's the men's choir Fóstbræður and not Stuðmenn that sing this song. I am terribly sorry for the misunderstanding, thanks to all my viewers for pointing that out! Unfortunately I am not capable of changing the mistake in the video itself, but I will try to make it clear who is really singing.

  • Whats with all the nationalists in the comments?

  • The icelandic language is in my eyes the best language in the world, fight for it.

  • Santa

  • When i was younger this song scared me, my father is a captain on a boat and i was allways so afraid when he went out on sea that he would land in a storm and that he would have to sing this song so the lighthouses would turn on.

  • @HeimirJosefsson I'd have to disagree. Ísland er land þitt, or Iceland is your country should be our national anthem. By far.

  • Ég fæ gæsahúð þegar ég hlusta á þetta lag.

I get goosebumps when I listen to this song.

  • @Draksen Þakka þér kærlega fyrir! Takk! Thank you! We will preserve it. In fact, we have a policy on names, and we have very few loanwords. Archaic grammar as well. Many of us (myself included) can read old norse from around 1100. Of course it will be preserved!

Icelandic has changed very little for 800 years. This song should be our national anthem.

  • Burn ye beacons!

  • @Draksen we thank you my france friend we keep it as long as you keep beeing good in football love from iceland
