Junky Funk - The Chicken [16 beat ~ 20 beat ~ 28 beat]

16ビート、20ビート、28ビート等の妙なビート「変ビート」を4小節ごとにチェンジしてます。

Junky Funkでは「The Chiken」を16ビート、20ビート、28ビートをぐるぐる入れ替えてプレイしています。

ライブでは特別に、イントロ部分のリフをあえて普通の16ビートから入り、途中から20ビートに切り替えているので、ビートの違いが一目瞭然になってます。一耳瞭然。

イントロからテーマに入った所は16beatに戻り、4小節ごとに20beat、28beatにチェンジしてます。キメからリフはまた20beatに戻ってます。あとはだ­いたい4小節ごとにビートをチェンジしてます。ビート毎のテンションの違いが楽しいです。

変ビート・チェンジを物ともせず吹きまくる音川さんのアドリブが凄いです。バッキングしていても思いの他盛り上がって楽しいです。

ところで、音川さんが旅の道中に発見した変ビートの簡単な取り方を応用している場面も結構あります。どういう事かというと、例えば、2拍5連符の場合は「コッコッコケコッ­コッ」、2拍7連符だと「コッコッコッコケコッコッコッ」と言葉を割り振ると、「ケ」の部分が2拍目の頭になり、簡単に2拍X連符をプレイできるんですよ。ドラムにも早速­応用してます。

ドラムは16ビートの部分に32分音符をちりばめてみました。32ビート。5連符20ビート部分で2拍5連符を3分割し、拍毎に手順を入れ替えるモーフィング7連符28ビ­ートもちらっと聴こえますね。

「Junky Funk / Standard Time Vol.2」の「dAMeEおやじコンセプト」では、リフやメロディの細かい音符をとらえると16ビート、20ビート、28ビート等と様々な変ビートでプレイしているので­すが、大きなノリの部分は4拍子が圧倒的に多いのです。

松井さんのピアノ・アドリブに入ると、一度あざとくパタッとヴォリュームを落としてバッキングしてます。スネアなんか、リム使ってますよ。（チキンでここまで落とす事はな­かなか無いと思います。）それで、次のコーラスで盛り上がるのかと思いきや、ベースが四分音符で「よん、よん、よん、よん、」とランニングし始めます。ドラムは小さな音で­16ビート、20ビート、28ビートのニュアンスを若干匂わせつつ、ヒタヒタとクールにプレイしています。「盛り下げ上手」の松井さんを完全サポートしたバッキング・プレ­イとなってます。（笑）

3コーラス目の16ビート部分では、ちょっと試しに先ほどの2拍5連符をごく一部にだけ「コッコッコケコッコッ」と強調して使ってみたのですが、次のタイミングには皆が完­璧に対応したアンサンブル・プレイになっているのが凄いところです。

打てば「コケッと」響く。

I mean, septulets! These words are NOT really common,though.

5-note figures and 7-note figures, they might be called!

Divide a quarter note or half note into 5 or 7 and omit some notes out of those 5 or 7 to get a groove that is really rare!

Hmm. Clever? yes, but musical? I don't think so. But that's just my opinion. I have two quotes in mind from my years studying music long ago; First; "if you can't cover a song better than the original, then don't cover it'. Second, "He who takes a thing apart to see what it is has left the path of wisdom". Jaco was ALL about groove. If you don't get that, I think you've missed the point. This failed on both counts... Sorry.
