Group: Inca Son Music & Dance of the Andes
Dance: Valicha
Venue: Sanders Theatre, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA
Description: One of the most traditional of Peruvian folk dances, the Valicha originated in Cusco, capital of the Inca Empire. The song, lively but a little wistful, tells the story of "Valicha" (Quechua for "Valeria") a beautiful young village girl with whom an older man fell hopelessly in love.
