Lengthy sequence cut from The Beatles Anthology (in favour of a repeat of a similar scene from the South Bank Show Sgt Pepper special), here's George Martin blethering on about 'A Day In The Life' in that way he does.

No astonishing revelations but you do get to hear the planned 'Om' vocal chant ending - which sounds curiously similar to the Moody Blues' efforts in that area the following year ('In Search Of The Lost Chord' ).

  • I wonder if there would ever be a way to access these instrument and vocal tracks individually. That would be amazing.

  • @MDCasino All the songs used in the Beatles Rock Band game ended up being extracted as multitrack audio files - A Day In The Life was one of them.

  • I don't know what you mean about George Martin "blethering on", but i could listen to George talk about The Beatles and what they did in the studio endlessly-and you should respect and appreciate what an inestimable influence George Martin was to the Beatles and rock music.

  • I do appreciate it - that's why I posted the clip.

Actually the multitrack stems of this song, and a few others are circulated. Do a google search for sgt pepper multitracks and maybe you can find it not on megaupload however.

  • God bless George Martin.

  • this is so interesting the man is a genius

  • Sir George Martin is 86 today. Thank you so much, George, for all you've done.

  • Thaks for posting this clip I found interesting how the Beatles did it back then and How Heorge Martin explain. I all was wondering how they did that and all was love to hear the song be ing made..peace be safe..Larry

  • @bluechao

agreed....i love drums and drummers...and i have all time favorite drum parts...

but that part ringo plays on "a day in the life" gets me every time....

phil collins has said the same about that part....

also love ringos drums on "here comes the sun", "something", "i feel fine", "please, please me" to name a few

i also love ginger baker, simon phillips, stewart copeland, moonie...to name a few

  • @ChiroQuacker It's really amazing. Somehow so simple and yet hard to fathom what he's doing all at the same time. I played drums for years and found it difficult to replicate and I've heard other drummers, some far, FAR better than me (top pros) say as much.

  • @beansterman1998 Lower the volume, but yes.

  • ringos drum overdub is one of the greatest drum parts ever played on record..ever...
