this is the very first gun i have built which utilized plasma as a power source. it is extremely weak and inefficient, i wont lie, but the point is it worked. gases superheated by even a small amount of plasma can realistically propel a projectile. on top of that the gun is a Christmas light for more info on this goto

If you have the guts and skill, try using an internal combustion engine with something like that. Just don't sue me if you blow up your hand or something like that! In theory, you can use something like a diesel engine's compression to force two gasses to ignite pretty uniformly. I'm not sure how good a compression you can (safely) get in a hand-held engine, though. It's probably why no one makes them. That and it would be a REALLY hot gun.
