@cameronsanati Tightly gripping onto your violin?? How can anyone say Vengerov has 'excessive tension' with his flawless shifts and fluid interpretation. Vengerov is always in full control. If I had one complaint it would sometimes be with the stability of his bow arm. Milstein remarked that a violinist must be able to invent. What looks like tension in one violinist might be complete relaxation in another. At Vengerov's level, it goes way beyond telling with the eyes.....

@carloslaran Ignorant? I think the teachers who do condemn Vengerov's technique do so because he plays with so much excessive tension and unnecessary movement. don't get me wrong, you can move, but when you are flailing around the stage while tightly gripping onto your violin, you may eventually come up with some back, neck and hand problems.
