Qui released the 3rd album (first album as a trio) on Mike Patton's cool record label, Ipecac, in 2007.

David Yow is the guy who made these guys a trio. He used to sing for The Jesus Lizard back in the day. I heard they were getting back together or something. Who knows ? Who cares.

Qui is a loud, bombastic, metal, grungey outfit. Their music consists of huge chugging riffs, crazy screechy guitar. pounding drums and an old grunge singer belting out near incomprehensible lyrics. Yow sounds still sounds like a drunk maniac.

These guys are very loud. Very much like old grunge / metal bands from the 90's.

This would make some good, messed up drinking music if your goals for the night was to pick fights, get punched for raving like a lunatic and puke on the sidewalk. Pretty lowbrow stuff, but it's not to it's discredit.

Fits right in on Ipecac records which consists mainly of other loud, grungey weirdness. Not necessarily my cup of tea, but it was a rockin' listen no matter which way you look at it.

Sounds like the Melvins if they were alcoholics. They also do a decent cover of Pink Floyds "Echoes".

3.6/5

  • Good review.

Oh and by the way the pronunciation of Ipecac is - IP-uh-CACK.

  • Sucks being the son of a french Canadian trucker.

    I can't pronounce shit !

Ipecac is stuff that's used to induce vomiting, I do know that much.

  • What grunge sounds like in 2007??!?!?!

    Oh lord...

  • Yeah, dude.

It's not as bad as it sounds. It does sound like these guys play them selves silly live.

It does have lots of that grunge try-hard sincerity. VIVA LE FLANNEL !

  • You don't pronounce the name of the band correctly, either.

  • Although the song is playing in the background...

  • A good cover of Pink Floyd? You don't mention what song.

  • Not much of an album review. More of an album cover/booklet review.
