Patrick Templeton Senior Saxophone Recital ETSU 2007

Herbert Couf was once the principal clarinetist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the orchestras of Pittsburgh and Baltimore. He was vice-president of the W. T. Armstrong company for many years, and helped design clarinets and saxophones. He has several instrument models named after him. His piece Introduction, Dance, and Furioso is a three movement work for solo saxophone. The first movement, Introduction, is improvisatory in nature and introduces some motives that will occur in the other movements, such as a repeated minor second interval and sixteenth-eighth-sixteenth syncopations. See if you can hear the return of these motives in the second and third movement. Also, listen for influences of jazz and even rock.
