As with submarines, for night vision RED dials, ambience & map lights are the only way to go, for red is the only color that doesn't compromise our night-vision. It amazes me red light isn't the default color in every vehicle.

(If you want the red idiot lights stand out of this red glow, try flashing red or orange for low oil & high temp.)
