Most puppies will nip or more aptly mouth when they are teething, and yes they may well do it if you try to take food from them. Just say a sharp ah ha at the time of the mouthing just like their mum does and it will stop and also provide them with dog teething rings. It totaly infuriates me when someone says a pup bites, just shows they dont know what they are talking about.
I have a Cairn x and they are awesome dogs.

carns are a very special dogs not for idiots or people who don't or cant be the alpa male ,train them as a puppy,like a dog who has human like emotions, when i got mine as a pup and he nipped at me when i took his bone i thought maybe i made a mistake when i put him on the bed and saw the sad look on his face the same intellegent look buster had who died at 15 the reason i got a cairn i knew i had the right dog either way i would keep him im loyal dogs taught me.Once trained they never bite
