2009 AIANC Design Awards - EcoDorm at Warren Wilson College - COTE

Architect: Samsel Architects, PA - The EcoDorm at Warren Wilson College is the last of a series of four dormitories; master planned over a period of 6 years, to create a village of residence halls surrounding a common lawn. At two stories, it houses 36 students. The EcoDorm is a demonstration facility, exemplifying environmental, healthy design principles; while educating the college students, staff and the community at large. Efficient space planning minimized square footage, cost, and reduced resources needed to construct, operate, and maintain the building. Consultants worked to provide their expertise for HVAC design, interior material selections, landscaping, grey water systems, and composting systems.
